England (18 May – 7 June 2019)

England, May 2019 was a time of new connections and reconnections. I met once again, after 20 years, architect David Turnbull who worked on the Esplanade Theatres as part of the Michael Wilford Associates team. In a new annual tradition that Ketna, Moh Yin and I started in 2017, we dined this time at the Oriental Club. The Oriental Club as theatre designer Anne Minors, was hosting me for a couple of nights and treating me to Garsington Opera’s The Bartered Bride, in a Pavilion that acoustician friend Bob Essert had designed. Brazil (7-12 Oct 2018)

We flew to Brazil on 7 Oct and parked ourselves in Foz do Guacu (mouth of Iguazu) at the Bourbon Cataratas Hotel 👍👍👍  We learn from our guide Renatta that there are 80 nationalities at this border town as the town welcomes exiles and refugees. There are three notable waterfalls in the world – Victoria Waterfall is the tallest, Niagara is the widest but Iguazu has the greatest collection of falls in one location. It was discovered in the 1600s by a Spaniard who … Continue reading Brazil (7-12 Oct 2018)

Colombia (25 Sept – 1 Oct 2018)

In Bogotá, they are dominantly descendants of the Spanish with fair complexion. In La Macarena, they were mostly of mixed ancestry – Spanish and native Americans. In Cartagena, 70% are descendent of Africans. BOGOTA (25-26 Sep, Madison Inn Hotel & Luxury Suites 👍👍👍👍👍 In Bogotá, we visited the Church at Mount Monserrate by cablecar.  As with many other churches, this church 3,100 metre above sea level, was built over a sacred site of the native Americans. A statue … Continue reading Colombia (25 Sept – 1 Oct 2018)

South America – Columbia / Peru / Brazil /Argentina (25 Sept – 15 Oct 2018)

To be honest, South America has never been on my bucket list. It’s so many hours away and I think, probably more attractive to nature lovers and adventurers.  I had been to Buenos Aires once for a lottery Congress (1998) and twice to Mexico – once to Cancun to speak at a lottery seminar when I brought my mum, a sister and my son and we went on to Guadalupe.  That was enough, as far as I was concerned.  In late 2017 and 2018, however, I received two invitations to visit the South American continent. The first in November 2017, … Continue reading South America – Columbia / Peru / Brazil /Argentina (25 Sept – 15 Oct 2018)
